We’re in the throes of award show season, which actually means the spotlight is on fashion—who the celebs are wearing and what they did to prep for their walk down the red carpet. Did we mention that people were actually receiving awards for achievement for outstanding work in various films and television shows. No matter—let’s get to the fashion. Let’s talk about some of the curvy beauties who ruffled some feathers in on the carpet.

Bryce Dallas Howard (not a nominee but a presenter) who not only made us think but caused a bit of a stir that made us lose a little bit of hope that glam at every size is available. Thanks to the wonder of and routine red carpet interviews, we know not only that Howard wore a Jenny Packham dress, in an unheard of size 6 in Hollywood, but that she is bought it herself at Neiman Marcus. This was apparently news enough for The Washington Post’s Robyn Givhan to say…

“it was the 10-second comment that Howard made about the origins of her dress that sent a ripple across social media and, perhaps, if we are lucky, landed like a reprimanding thud within the fashion industry. Packham had not created the dress just for Howard. It was not borrowed. Howard had purchased it. Purchased it. At Neiman Marcus.

Why? Because she said it was nice to go into a store and have lots of choices in a size 6, which in the wider world is quite petite but in the realm of actresses is edging towards plus-size."

The shopping struggle seems to be real, telling E!’s Giuliana Rancic that she went shopping because she had this crazy idea that she should have options:

“I like having lots of options for a size 6, as opposed to maybe one option, so I always go to department stores.”

Celebs know they have the floor while on the carpet, so we must thank Howard on some level for throwing this hard truth out there for us to reflect on. Although it’s not quite on the level of Amy Schumer’s “I’m about 160 pounds and I can catch a D whenever I want,” statement, it had to have been deliberate, speaking out that size is still an issue, and we thank her for bringing it up.

Speaking of Amy Schumer, the Trainwreck star and comedy queen who was nominated for Best Comedy Film and Best Actress in a Comedy for her self-written film, turned heads in a black-and-white pocketed Prabal Gurung gown. We also need to mention another curvy beauty--and funny woman--Melissa McCarthy, who although didn’t take home a Golden Globe for her work in Spy, was still a winner on the red carpet in a metallic bell-sleeve gown with a low neckline and front slit. The beautifully constructed gunmental design featured a band that highlighted the star’s waistline. She didn’t forget the accessories either, wearing a long pendant necklace, glittery clutch, and lace black heels. In one word: Radiant.

McCarthy’s own on-point style makes us want to shop her fashion line Melissa McCarthy Seven7.
